Littman & White Galleries

Branding || Typography || Copywriting || Page Layout

The Littman & White Galleries are student-run contemporary art galleries on the Portland State University campus. This re-brand was intended to catch the viewer's eyes by showing that typography can be art in itself. The bright CMYK-inspired color palette is intended to connect technology, skill, craft, and art into one concept.

It Doesn’t Get Easier was an exhibit by self-taught Portland-based Artist, Spencer Winans in the Spring of 2024. It Doesn’t Get Easier explored the many meditations, observations, and realities of life. The exhibit’s identity comes from Winans’ personality, showcasing his handwriting in the main text lock-up— which was sampled from his Doff #1 comic, and also featuring one of the artist’s doodles for the main poster.

Kitchen: A Love Letter to Your Favorite Customer and Hair Stylist was an exhibit by Portland Artist, Kiara Walls— and featured work from Photographer Mason Biggers, and a zine created by Paola de La Cruz. This exhibit from the Winter of 2024 focused on the intimate relationships that surround black hair, and the people involved with the care of it. The art direction of this exhibit pulls inspiration from hair product packaging and is meant to have viewers do a double-take when they realize that it’s not just a product photo.

(In) Process: A Littman Outrospective was an exhibit exploring the process of Frederic Littman— the Gallery’s namesake. This Fall 2023 exhibit was a celebration of the Gallery’s 45th anniversary, as well as the life and work of Frederic Littman. Littman can be credited for contributing many wonderful sculptures in Portland and the Pacific Northwest, as well as inspiring many others to dig deeper into their crafts as Sculptors. This exhibit was special due to the fact that many exhibits don’t show the process of the Artist, but rather the finished piece— a reminder that even the greatest of the greats had to start at zero in order to get to the point of creating masterpieces.
